Phoenix has been a member of multiple award-winning troupes, including Naimah's Amandari and Anani Inaru's Roza Azul. He began studying the various forms of bellydance in 2008, starting with classical styles such as Egyptian Oriental and American Cabaret. As his studies expanded to include American Tribal Style and modern bellydance fusion, he has mixed in his background in Yoga and knowledge of the martial arts to make a dance style uniquely his own. Phoenix's solo performances have been described by Latifa as "fire made flesh, spicy, with a bouquet that hints at a fine merlot."

His teachers have included Naimah, MiaNaja al Sephira, Azhia, and Latifa. In addition, he has taken many masterclasses under such internationally-regarded artists as Rachel Brice, Morocco, and Suhaila Salimpour. While he often performs to modern popular music, he has also performed with live bands performing traditional belly dance music such as Ishtar and Darbuka Dawg's The Fez Tones. While attending festivals such as Art of the Belly, Rakkasah East, Rakkasah's Spring Caravan, Artscape in Baltimore and the Belly Dancers of Color Association, he has performed solos and troupe pieces, covering the wide variety of styles in which he has been trained.

In the DC and Maryland area, he regularly performs both as a solo artist and as a member of many troupes, including Amandari, Roza Azul, MiaNaja's Raqs Divas, the MiaNaja Oriental Dance Ensemble (MODE), and Latifa's Banat al-Beled.
